A Melbourne couple has been sentenced to prison for keeping their Indian grandmother as a slave at home for eight years. They kept the Tamil grandmother as a working prisoner in their house to take care of their house and children.
The court heard that the terrible condition of the grandmother was discovered when she was found in the urine pool in July 2015. She weighed only 40 kg. The couple paid her just over $ 3 a day to cook, clean, and care for their three children. The wife was sentenced today to 8 years in prison with no parole for four years, and her husband was sentenced to 6 years in prison with no parole for three years.
She was trapped inside the house even when the family was overseas for the holidays. Now she has to use a catheter for the rest of her life because of the lack of medical care.
